Affiliate marketing is like saying how long is a piece of string though, it is one the easiest ways to set up your Internet marketing business. Check out the video at the foot of this post, interesting!
The beauty of affiliate marketing basically is this; you don’t need any of the following: payment facilities other than to get paid yourself, any of your own products and no customer aftercare facility.
Many people have set up as affiliate marketers mainly due to the economic climate and high unemployment. Unfortunately, they have laid themselves open to buying how to do it products which quite frankly are all peddling the same old stuff just repackaged differently.
I’m not saying that everyone fails at affiliate marketing, it is a fact that many are highly successful at it though, getting started is or can be a bit of a nightmare unless, you have a good amount of money to spend on advertising.
If your relying on organic traffic from search engines then, you would be better going for the long tailed keywords or at least those with little competition also, check out misspell searches when an s or z may be used e.g. laser and lazer.
It could take you years to get enough traffic to make it worth your while. Affiliate marketing has become a fine art these days. Gone are the days of throwing up a website and making a pile of cash on autopilot, if anyone tells you differently then, they are not telling you the truth.
What do you need to get started in affiliate marketing? Firstly, you better have your own website, this way you have control over your own web property. You need to be very careful about your domain name and make sure it is related to your particular niche. You then need to do your homework on whatever it is you choose to promote.
Make a check list :-
1. The niche you would like to promote in i.e. health & beauty, dating, fishing there are literally hundreds upon hundreds. Experiment with keywords and searches on those keywords. Less competition the easier and quicker it will be for you to rank well on search engines.
2. Your web site name .com works best.
3. You need hosting to put your site on the net unless you want to do affiliate marketing via social sites like face book, twitter etc even so, better to have your own set up.
4. Look at the competition, the less the better of course.
5. Make sure what your offering is of use or help to people who land on your page, select your offer carefully, you need to provide a solution to a particular problem.
6. You need very compelling head lines or your visitor is gone in less than 2 seconds. Newspaper ad’s have a 2 to 3 second impact.
7. Try to capture the name and email of your visitors preferably before they see your offer here is an example of one of my sites Rich Home Mom
8. When you have done all the above, your still at the bottom of a mountain looking up because, now the real work begins.
9. Promoting your offer.
10. Tweaking your site to optimise it.
OK, so you have done all the above, now for the tough part of affiliate marketing, getting traffic.
As mentioned in earlier posts, you might have the best offer or the best looking site but, with no traffic you will fail to cash in.
Now I’m going to treat you as it’s a nice sunny day:-
If your serious about affiliate marketing or any other Internet marketing then, if you never do anything do this download some traffic tips.
Get yourself some web 2.0 pages on squidoo and hub pages, write some articles and link back to your web 2.0 pages, it’s not a good idea to link direct to your web site so, it goes a bit like this:-
Put your original article on ezine or go articles links to your squidoo page, you then link to your web sites home page from your squidoo pages. Your article readers, and provided your articles are interesting, will go to your squidoo page then, arrive on your web site, this is much better method, your doing a soft sell and pre sell. By the time your reader arrives they are 90% sold, make sure your landing page is 1st class and keep tweaking it.
One of the most important points to check is; your statistics and find out exactly what brings you traffic. You can use google analytics and your control panel stats for this purpose though, it’s another story.
Remember to keep everything relevant for targeted visitors.
One final thing which I believe is very important : never give up, keep working at it and tweaking you will win in the long run.
